A prayer book for the browser: the morning prayers, the Short Hours, and the whole Psalter in twenty kathismata.

The pages are set the way the printed books set them - black and red, an ornament at the head, a drop cap opening each prayer.

There is no account to make and nothing to install. Once you have opened a page it stays available with the signal off, and on a phone home screen it opens like an app.

The type is EB Garamond.

The ornaments come from the Orthodox Illustration Project. They are vector drawings, so they stay sharp at any size and invert cleanly for the night palette.

Six of them sit in rotation at the head of the page, and the date picks which one (not chance - everyone reading on a given day sees the same ornament). It turns over at midnight.

The Psalter follows the twenty kathismata of the Slavonic use. The index points to the kathisma appointed for the day of the month - the first on the first, through the twentieth, then beginning again.

Drop caps are sized from the metrics of whichever font actually loaded, so the capital spans whole lines instead of landing between them.

Day and Night follow your system setting until you pick one, and the site remembers.

There are no analytics, and nothing here is fetched from another server. Every font, script, and image comes from this domain.
